It's hard to believe all this started at the beginning of November. It feels like much longer than only almost 3 months.
And as Dad's oncologist said, he's already halfway through the typical life expectancy for pancreatic cancer and is doing great, relatively speaking.
We still don't really know anything yet. The doctor wants about 8 rounds of chemo before doing a cat scan, and once again that's been set back. Dad got his port put in with no problems but then couldn't get his infusion because his blood levels were too low. And next week was his week off so nothing until Feb 5 now.
I'm working on getting Dad more active, which is no easy task. We took him out for a hike today. It was chilly but beautiful. I'm not sure he realized what he was in for. There was a pretty steep elevation involved. (He's napping now.) This week I am taking him to look at a wellness center in Cary, hopefully like the one he used to go to in Pinehurst. I'd like to be able to drop him off and let him work out.
I've been going with friends to a support group for adult children of aging parents. It's crazy that 20 years ago we were going to la leche league meetings together and now this. Almost all of my friends are dealing with aging parent issues to some degree. At least we have each other. And, some of the stories I hear at the support group make our situation look pretty good!
Hope you have a lovely week.
