Why I get myself worked up into such a tizzy is beyond me. Things seem to work out. In this case, it looks like Dad has successfully made it to Florida flying alone. Holy cow that was stressful. He seemed so vulnerable in the airport and was asking me questions that really made me wonder if I should send him. But I did, trusting that the airlines staff would do what they said, which was to get him safely on and off the plane and to his connecting flight in Atlanta. Sherry just texted me to say the eagle has landed.
Dad is looking forward to warm weather and seeing his family, and I am looking forward to a couple weeks off. I know from the comments some of you send that you understand how hard this is. Strangely, sending him off had me in tears, but oh how I'm going to enjoy the break.
I had a lovely conversation with my brother-in-law today. Jay's oldest brother was the one who took care of their father in his final years. He had advanced dementia and a host of other ailments. They live in Texas so Jay was not nearby to share in the care. However, when I told Mark today that we have new-found appreciation, respect and gratitude for what he did for their father, he assured me that the support he got from his brothers helped immensely. He said it was reassuring and important to have his brothers trust and support, to know they had his back. The love of friends and family is so important.
I'm attaching an airport arrival selfie. Dad can chat and skype in Florida. Stay in touch.
